Board of Director Elisabeth “Betty” LahtiAfter growing up in Nanking, China, where her parents were both teachers, Betty moved to Syracuse, New York. She graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from Syracuse University where her parents also graduated and where her father was a teacher.

Betty worked at the Neighborhood Center organization in Utica, New York helping 5 to 9-year-old boys and girls until she married and moved to Michigan. She was an active volunteer in Kalamazoo and served on many boards. For ten years she worked with the probate court and for four years served on the State (Michigan) “Crime and Delinquency Council.”

Betty moved to Palm City in 1984 and immediately become active in the community.

Betty has a keen interest in the arts and literature. She donated two grand pianos to library branches, one in Palm City for the “Music Afternoon Concerts” series and one in Stuart for the “Classics @ the Blake.” She also donated pianos to the Palm City Presbyterian Church and to the Boys and Girls Clubs, Indiantown branch.

She resides in Palm City with her companion Millie, a Maltese with playful personality.
